Wolfgang Gartner – July 29 @ Yost Theater Review PLUS Casual Encounters of the 3rd Kind EP

On July 30, 2012 by Andrew

So Wolfgang Gartner pretty much threw it down last night. From the opening DJ’s of F1nale and Mister Blaqk to the late addition of TJR, and of course Wolfgang Gartner, I was not disappointed at all. All the artists played to the crowd and had great song selection.

F1nale was the opening DJ and I kinda feel sorry for openers because by the time they finish, most people are just starting to come in late. Plus, people don’t want to be the first ones on the floor or they just want to be “fashionably” late. Nevertheless, F1nale still had some great tunes going.

Mister Blaqk, other wise known as Sahil Dhingara, built off of F1nale and started to bring some people to the floor. He looked like he was having a great time on stage, which I think is important to get the crowd involved. I think his set was mainly deep house, sprinkled with some other jams to warm up the crowd.

TJR, also known as TJ Rozdilsky, was up next, and did he ever shake up the joint. His “Funky Vodka” track is one that I’ve been wanting to hear live since I heard it a couple months ago. Thankfully, he played it, and it was even better hearing it live. There’s just something about his sets that separates himself from other not as well known DJ’s moving up. He didn’t play hit after hit that the crowd would know and respond to. He changed it up by dropping some funky tunes to get the crowd dancing while still.

After playing at the Wavehouse in San Diego just a few hours before, Wolfgang Gartner, who in human form we call Joey Youngman, took the stage. The songs I posted about yesterday for his show (“Illmerica“, “Space Junk“, “There and Back“, “Red Line“, and “Flexx“) were all played. I know, I’m such the mind reader. Anyways, he still mixed it up and I’m pretty sure he played the two new songs from his EP Close Encounters of the 3rd Kind, “Girl on Girl” and “Girl on Boy”. Both tracks seem classic Wolfgang Gartner, but have a strong electro house vibe that play off of each other.
