An21 at Sutra - February 17

If you weren’t at Sutra in Costa Mesa on Sunday night, February 18, it’s safe to say you really missed out. I’m just gonna say that last night was in one word: amazing. I had high hopes for the venue and for the performers, and everything just fell perfectly in to place. This was the most fun I had taking photos of an event, and I hope to continue to do more of these types of shows in the future. I also gave out a ton of business cards to people throughout the night, so if you’re visiting this site from the card you have, thank you!

First off, Doctor Macro opened things up in the VIP Room and showed no mercy throughout their set. Steve and Derek went balls to the wall, bringing down the house with heavy hitters such as “Kill Humans” by Dirtyloud and “Titan” by Clockwork. As people were going to and from the restrooms that were nearby, the guys managed to draw some away from the main stage with their infectious sounds. Tunes like Franky Rizardo’s “Blackout” and W&W’s “Lift Off” made their way in to the ears of unsuspecting guests. Their biggest song of the night might have been “Pandor” by Tony Romera as that one got everyone in the VIP Room up and dancing.

At midnight, I then made my way over to the main stage to check out AN21, also known as Antoine Josefsson. I had previously seen him perform with Max Vangeli in 2011 at Insomniac’s Escape from Wonderland at the Size Matters Stage along side Steve Angello, Benny Benassi, Thomas Gold, and Third Party. I worked my way up the stage and got in position to take some great shots, literally within a few feet of AN21. I was really impressed with his solo performance, as he played Arno Cost’s “Head Up” and Swedish House Mafia’s recent hit “Don’t You Worry Child“, which had the whole crowd singing along. As I looked in to the crowd, all eyes were on the young DJ as he dropped “The Island” remixed by him, Max Vangeli, and Steve Angello as well as “Calling” by Sebastian Ingrosso and Alesso, another track that got the crowd involved.

After AN21 was done throwing down, I actually got a chance to talk with him a little bit and found out he’s a really cool, laid back guy. I gave him my business card, so hopefully we can set up an interview or something in the future!
