Claptone - Charmer (Album)

We’ve had a number of artist debut albums released this year, and this time around Claptone throws his hat into the ring with his own titled “Charmer”. One of my favorite tracks of masked artist (and the one that actually got me hooked on his style) is his remix of Gregory Porter’s “Liquid Spirit“. The DJ and producer from Berlin has put out the album on Exploited, a record label also based in Germany.

Although who he is remains a mystery, there’s no doubt that he pumps each track with his signature house sound that gets the people dancing. Standouts in the 13 track album for me include “The Only Thing”, “Dear Life” featuring Jaw, “Heartbeat” featuring Nathan Nicholson, and “Your Body (In The Rain)” featuring Bavandan.

“In a now long forgotten world, many generations ago, a bird like shape emerged from wooded darkness, floating and fluttering, drifting and dreaming. Backlit by a bright glow of iridescent light, the undecipherable form wore a dazzling golden mask. Its long beak swooped down like an inverted horn and since then, people have referred to the mythical being simply as Claptone…”
