Subscape - I Would Have Loved You (EP)

Dubstep producer Subscape has a new EP out now on Dub Police called “I Would Have Loved You”. The package includes the title track and remixes of it by AWE and Atlantic Parade, as well as another original mix by Subscape titled “Angels”. I had the opportunity to ask Anthony Peters about the EP, his style, and his reaction to being named one of Skream and Benga’s 2014 Future Stars. Check out the four tracks after the interview below!

Hey Subscape, thanks for the chance to talk. Can you give us a little background on yourself?

Hello Orange County! I’m a dubstep producer from Woking in the UK, and I have been releasing music since 2008. I’ve been performing at events and festivals around the world since 2009.

How would you describe your music or style?

The most standout thing about my Dubstep tracks is my melodic style of production. I always strive to create my own unique sound. I know my studio set-up inside out, and I know how to use it to get the exact sound I want for a given track. Hopefully people can hear my tracks or remixes and say, “that’s definitely Subscape!”

Your new EP “I Would Have Loved You” is out now. What’s the story behind that?

The title track originally came out on Dub Police’s massive Past Present Future compilation, as part of the Future section. Dub Police were keen to release it as a single, so we decided to get additional remixes and include my track Angels to make up the single release. I’m very pleased with how everything came together, and we’ve had great support so far!

How did you get AWE and Atlantic Parade to come on board and remix “I Would Have Loved You”?

I’d never had any of my tracks remixed before, so it was very exciting to be entering into this remix project. My music is very precious so it took me a while, and I was very careful making my choices with the producers. I met AWE in LA at a Dub Police show. After hearing his release on Terrorhythm, I was very interested by his sound, so I asked him to rework I Would Have Loved You in his own unique style. I think it came out really well, he totally flipped it on its head and it got a great reaction. As I’m a fan of house music, I wanted something from that genre to complement my mix, and I bumped into the sound of a producer called Atlantic Parade. He is pretty unknown at the moment, but has an amazing ear for sound. I set him the challenge to see if he could remix the original, and what he came up with is amazing. It has received a lot of attention from places that wouldn’t normally listen to the style of music that I write.

What was it like being named as one of Skream and Benga’s 2014 Future Stars?

It was a pleasant surprise that after six years, in 2014, I was noticed as a future star, but I suppose nothing happens before its time! Skream and Benga are respected peers in music, so it was nice for them to recognise what I’ve been doing. It was also cool to be alongside Route 94 and Hannah Wants who are both doing really good things. I’ve got a great bunch of dedicated supporters who already were championing everything I did which I am very thankful for. I’ve been working on my debut album so I’ve been off the radar for a while, but it will be worth the wait.

What’s the rest of the year look like for you?

I’ll be entering in to the final stages of my album project, and that’s the most important thing for me now. I’ll be celebrating Dub Police’s 10th Anniversary and playing a few parties across Europe, and possibly North America. This should bring me until up until the end of 2014. 2015 will see the release of my album with plenty of music to share and play across the world.
