Stoneface & Terminal - 10 Years (Album) + Interview

Although a long decade has passed, the trance duo of Stoneface & Terminal are still going strong pumping out originals, remixes, and touring the globe. The German pair of Matthias Gierth and Henry Nix have now put together a 30 track compilation album as well as a continuous mix of the songs to celebrate their “10 Years” together. The album has been released on Kyau & Albert’s German label Euphonic Records.

Read on for an interview with Stoneface & Terminal as they discuss working together, the evolution of dance music, and their tracks on the album.

Hey guys, appreciated your time. It seems like 10 years is a long time for a duo to still be together. How have you been able to still create great music together after a decade?

Hi, thank you.

We still want to create the music that we love and we want to play it live, together. That’s what is still driving us. Only the method changed over the years as Matthi moved to Hamburg. Now we are working a lot via the internet.

After 10 years, there must be some interesting stories from touring…

Well, yeah… we saw Ben Afleck shooting a movie at the airport in Tulsa, we saw that huge oil tanker stranded at the beach of Durban in South Africa, Natalie Portman in a restaurant in London, we had that famous pizza in Chicago, won 15 cents in Las Vegas and so on… 🙂

How do you manage to stay fresh and unique instead being pigeonholed into one sound?

We are different with our sound and we want to stay different. Maybe we could be more famous if we’d copy the sound that everyone plays but we probably would feel sick while producing that stuff. We just always look for something new and interesting. Our priority is set to the music, not to get mega rich or having tons of groupies around us… We just want to live off the things we love to do.

How has dance music changed in your view over the past 10 years?

10 years ago, dance music was made and released by kinda nerds. Now there is a parallel dance scene dominated by high school bruhs who even don’t produce their own music. They don’t really know how to DJ. The simple festival big room music became very popular… But, thank god, the real DJ and club scene is still there.

How did you decide which tracks to include in your “10 Years” compilation album?

We talked about which tracks did touch us the most over the years. That’s not only the most successful track but also the secret favs like an unreleased track called ‘Paranoid’. Also, a young guy called ‘Net Son‘ asked us on our social network sites if he can do a remix for ‘Picture’. He did a real good job and so we took his remix on the album. We thought it would be a good idea to produce 2015 reworks of some tracks to show how tracks like ‘Volcano’ sound in 2015. It turned out really good!

2015 summer anthem: Technasia & Green Velvet – Suga

Best track to play at peak time: Stoneface & Terminal – Don’t Give A Fuck

Unexpected remix to switch things up: Stephan Bodzin – Sungame (Fur Coat Remix)

Vocalist you’d most like to work with: Henry: Florence Welch. Matthi: Sia.
