Boombox Cartel - Cartel EP

One of the songs that I keep finding myself listen to is Boombox Cartel’s “Dancing With Fire” featuring Stalking Gia from last year. You can say I was ecstatic when I found out that Americo Garcia and Jorge Medina had a five song EP that they were ready to release! The EP from the Los Angeles based duo consists of “Phoenix”, “Jefe”, “Alamo” featuring Shoffy, “Dem Fraid” featuring Taranchyla, and “Widdit” featuring QUIX.

I was trying to figure out why “Dem Fraid” sounded so familiar to me when I figured out one of the places I heard it before was during LOUDPVCK’s guest mix on Night Owl Radio 080 from last month (go to the 1:29:08 mark in the episode). Originally, the tune started out as a remix to “Forbes” by Borgore featuring G-Eazy before being turned into a new song.

“The EP opens with the melodic “Phoenix,” a future bass tune which acts as the introductory track. The next song is “Jefe,” an extra bass heavy track released at the beginning of March, marking the first new music from the duo in some time. The following track is “Alamo” an energetic hybrid track which has already amassed thousands of plays since being released last month. Next is a riddim track titled “Dem Fraid,” a slowed-down rhythmic yet wonky song. Rounding out the EP is “Widdit,” this collaboration with the bass don QUIX is sure to be heard in every trap set this summer.”
