Pendulum – The Reworks (Remix Album)

It’s been seven long years since Pendulum has released any type of music, but that changes today with their remix album “The Reworks”. The 13 track set from Earstorm Records features remixes of some classic Pendulum tunes, with versions by Noisia, Knife Party, Eelke Kleijn, Skrillex, Grabbitz, Devin Townsend, Icarus, Pegboard Nerds, Matrix & Futurebound, AN21, DJ Seinfeld, Moby, and ATTLAS.

Pendulum was first formed in Australia in 2002 by Rob Swire, Gareth McGrillen, and El Hornet, before picking up Peredur ap Gwynedd and KJ Sawka along the way. The guys produced three albums while they were together: “”Hold Your Colour” in 2005, “In Silico” in 2008, and “Immersion” in 2010. Some of my favorites from those LP’s are “Slam“, “Hold Your Colour“, “Blood Sugar“, “Granite“, “Crush“, “Salt In The Wounds“, “Watercolour“, “The Island – Pt. I (Dawn)“, and “The Island – Pt. II (Dusk)“.

In 2011, Swire and McGrillen created Knife Party and have gone on to create EP’s like “Rage Valley“, “Haunted House“, and “Trigger Warning“, with an album titled “Abandon Ship” and a single called “Battle Sirens” with Tom Morello as well.

Pendulum will be offering a “limited edition box set presented in a laser cut jacket box with magnetic close featuring the bands logo and includes all of the 4 Pendulum albums on Heavyweight Vinyl, alongside an exclusive 4 CD Photo Booklet focusing on the bands key moments and memories from their personal archive, spanning from the history of inception, to the present day. The box set will see the first three studio albums completely remastered – the first time the albums will be available in this format, as fans will remember that ‘ Hold Your Colour’ was originally a 6 track album of non-singles, whilst In Silico was originally a 4 track EP, making these boxes incredibly rare.”

Here’s what Noisia has to say about their remix of “Hold Your Colour”: “We tried to work with the rebellious nature of the lyrics, make it a protest song almost. That’s why the female vocal is in there, it’s a play on a Wu Tang track… Brownie points for those who know it.”

Regarding his remix of “The Island Pt. 1 (Dawn)”, Skrillex states: “I bought a Pendulum vinyl when I was sixteen and was on tour with my band From First To Last. It made me fall in love with drum and bass, and has been an inspiration to this day. It was an honour remixing Island.”
