Porter Robinson – July 19 (Omnia, San Diego)
This Friday July 19, Porter Robinson will be playing at Omnia in San Diego. Last month, Robinson debuted his two day Second Sky Music Festival in Oakland which featured the likes of Madeon, Cashmere Cat, G Jones, Kero Kero Bonito, Chrome Sparks, Anamanaguchi, Wednesday Campanella, and Nina Las Vegas. There was also a Virtual Self set to open up both days and special guest set by Skrillex on the second day.
In June, the Grammy nominated artist announced the launch of the Robinson Malawi Fund in coordination with University of North Carolina Medicine. The goal is to raise money for a rare form of fast-growing cancer called Burkitt lymphoma for children in Malawi. In November 2016, Robinson’s brother Mark was diagnosed with the disease before undergoing treatment at UNC and is now cancer free. 90% of children in the United States with the cancer are cured and survive, but that number is only 29% in Malawi.
To raise awareness, Robinson teamed up with one of his brother’s UNC doctors Dr. Kate Westmoreland, who leads the pediatric cancer program at UNC Project-Malawi. Between donations at Second Sky, online donations, and $1 from each ticket, $77,000 was raised with Robinson matching the amount, bringing the total to $154,000 raised.
Tickets for the 21+ show are $60 with doors opening at 9pm.
