Sully – Quake (Original Mix) [Free Download]

Southern California has had some sizable earthquakes this summer…maybe Sully’s latest track “Quake” had something to do with it? The Los Angeles based artist gives us atmospheric soundscapes early on before throwing down monstrous basslines in the brain rattling tune. Chris Sullivant started the Sully project in March, with the new free download just the fourth song of his.

The hard hitting track follows hot off the heels of the explosive “Coast To Coast” from June, which is also when PEEKABOO played “Quake” at Ever After Music Festival in Ontario, Canada before its official release. Another ID of Sully’s that has caught some traction is “Suction Cup”, which was played by PEEKABOO again, but this time at Ultra Music Festival in Miami this past March.

The Michigan native says that “The idea for ‘Quake’ was super spontaneous. I was in the studio one day and wanted to flush out a quick idea before I went home, so I whipped up some build up drums and found a placeholder vocal from Diplo’s song “Earthquake” to get me started. As I was working on the drop, I just kept the earthquake concept in mind and replicated that not only in the vocal phrasing, but in the sound design during the breaks and the drop. During the breaks, I even used a live recording of an earthquake I found to give me that crunchy, crumbling fill I was searching for. I think it also adds a lot of character to the track. See if you can hear where I used it!”
