Marsh – Lailonie (Album)

British artist Marsh has released his 12 track album “Lailonie” on Above & Beyond’s Anjunadeep imprint. Now based in Cincinnati, Tom Marshall wrote the album over the course of the past three years. The melodic and progressive set uses ethereal soundscapes and warm synths throughout the 12 songs.

The album from the London based record label includes “Florence”, “Lailonie”, “Amor” with Wassu, “My Stripes” featuring Leo Wood, “Healer”, “Wasn’t Enough”, “Don’t Wait” with Phenoir featuring Mariel Beausejour, “There For Me”, “Over & Over” featuring Leo Wood, “Foss” featuring Mimi Page, “Carme” with Forerunners, and “Beech Street”.

“Lailonie” (which comes from his wife Maddie’s middle name), “Amor”, “Healer”, “Wasn’t Enough”, and “There For Me” feature his own vocals. “Carme” is named after his wife’s mother who unexpectedly passed away at the end of 2018. Marsh talks a bit about the album in this interview he did with a local Cincinnati morning show.

Marsh states “‘Lailonie’, pronounced ‘Lay-lah-knee’, has been a safe place for me to express a multitude of feelings, moments, and memories I’ve experienced over the last three years. The album is a series of snapshots taken at different points as I’ve processed moving to a new country, getting married, traveling to different places. I’ve also experienced the pain of loss. We unexpectedly and suddenly had to say goodbye to Maddy’s Mom Carme at the end of 2018. I’ve had to rapidly learn how to love and stand by Maddy as we process this pain. We live in a world with so much going on. I think it’s important to have a safe place where you can go to catch your breath, process life, and grow. Lailonie has been that place for me. I hope it can be that place for you.”

Marsh played tracks from the album during his Sunrise Set at Natural Bridge State Park in Kentucky in early November as well as in his guest mix for Above & Beyond’s Group Therapy 408 two weeks ago.
