On December 7, 2020 by ocedm

Timothy Allen latest track called “Moving Slow” will have you doing anything but moving slow tonight! The grooving and pumping tech house tune was released on artwrk, a sublabel of Be Yourself Music that was started in 2019. Dutch DJ and producer Timo Pardoel started the alias last July and certainly shows no signs of slowing down.

Read on for an interview with Timothy as he talks about how 2020 has been for him, how he got in touch with artwrk, and how he put together his most recent mix for The Night Train!

What’s up Timothy! Appreciate your time today. How has 2020 been for you?

Thank you for having me! I would say I imagined 2020 totally different. But I realized I had to accept the situation and make the best of it. Musically wise this is the best year yet and I have released five amazing tracks with incredible support from Tiesto, Fedde Le Grand, Bingo Players, Showtek and a lot more. Also my releases in the beginning of the year where playlisted in Spotify editorial playlists like Powerhour, Hot New Dance, and Friday Cratediggers. So this was a big motivation for me to keep doing what I love, making music. With my upcoming release I already look forward to 2021. I hope the clubs are opening soon because my tracks are made for the clubs.

Your new song “Moving Slow” has been released on artwrk, a sublabel of Be Yourself Music. You’ve previously released a couple tracks from them before, so how did you first get in touch with the label and decide to release from the imprint?

The day that I received a mail back from label boss Dick is burned into my memory. I was super happy. Be Yourself Music is from my teenage years till now one of my favorite labels with iconic releases. Artists like Jochen Miller, D-wayne, Sick Individuals, and Thomas Newson were for me (and still are) my examples. Especially in the big room era around 2012. Those names were also the reason for me to start making music.

Now being part of the Be Yourself Music family makes me super proud. I didn’t know upfront they started the new sublabel artwrk back in summer 2019. But being included on a new project makes me really excited. Fast forward to December 2020 it makes me happy to see that artwrk is growing every day with amazing releases. “Moving Slow” will be my third release on the imprint and I know for sure many more will come.

Can you describe the process in how the tune first started out and how you ended up with the finished product?

I always love to make big club tracks and the evolution of the tech house genre to what it is now, a more mainstream one makes it even better for me. My inspiration always comes from other artists especially the ones I named above. But also tech house king Fisher is an inspiration as well. As you can hear in the tracks of Fisher and me, you don’t have to make your track very complicated. A groovy bassline with some unique elements can do the job.

I took a listen to your guest mix on The Night Train from a few weeks ago. How did you decide which tracks to include, and which song was your favorite that you played?

For me bass house and tech house can be amazingly combined with techno. Techno is an amazing genre. It can be very deep and melodic or very hard and industrial. I found out that a lot of people, especially on the end of a club night want to go deeper and harder so that’s where techno comes in place. When I was asked for a guest mix for The Night Train I was super excited. One hour I could play my favorite artists like Zimmz and Cosmic Boys. Those tracks are something else. It also gave me the opportunity to play my own track from a previous alias called TIIMO. I made the track “Balkan” with the incredible Brand Rose who also is a techno lover. So this track was really fun to make and we put all of our energy in it. It was a great feeling playing this on Dutch radio.

What are you looking forward to most in 2021?

That I can walk with a beer in a festival and enjoy the time there. For me that’s something I think almost every day. I also hope to work together with the label Smash The House for new releases and also with Be Yourself Music again.
