Kastra – Fool For You (Original Mix) + Interview

On April 1, 2021 by ocedm

New Jersey native Kastra has made his debut on Ultra Music with the release of “Fool For You”. After first starting out creating bootlegs and mashups, Ray Decker branched out into producing his own originals released on imprints such as Armada Music, Spinnin’ Records, Enhanced Music, Dim Mak, and Ministry of Sound. With alluring vocals, soft piano chords, and pulsating synths, his first release of the year fits right in with the New York based record label.

Read on for an interview with Kastra as he talks about how he would describe his sound in three animals, his production background, and his new song “Fool For You”!

Hey there Kastra, appreciate your time today. How has the start of 2021 been for you so far?

Hey thanks for having me! Great so far, just released my first single on Ultra and it’s been getting a really great reception. It was just added into rotation on Sirius XM BPM and so many people have been reaching out telling me how much they like it. Hopefully I can get back to playing shows soon!

How would you describe your sound in three animals, and why those animals?

I would say an octopus, a cheetah, and an eagle. They’re all very poised and calculated. They’re smart, aggressive, and also very unique.

How has your background in creating bootlegs and mashups prepared you for producing your own originals?

I’ve actually been writing songs much longer than I have been making mashups. However, when I started getting into electronic music, making mashups really helped define what kind of sound I wanted to go for. I like to make radio ready songs but I always have a more aggressive edit of it ready to play live.

Your latest single in “Fool For You” was just put out on Ultra Music. Were there any difficulties or things you went back and forth on before deciding it was finished?

As far as the writing process, not really. That’s usually how I know I am on to something. If it just comes naturally and almost “writes itself”, that’s usually a good sign. If I feel like I am forcing it, I know I am probably going to hate it when it’s done. The team who wrote the vocals did an amazing job so when I got my hands on it I knew exactly where to take it.

What can you tell us about what you have planned for the rest of the year?

Planning to release a lot more music. A lot of artists, myself included, were quiet last year due to the pandemic. However, I wrote so much great material and this is the time I’ll be rolling it out. Also like I mentioned earlier, I should be getting back out and playing some shows. I have some really great guests coming up on my radio show, Niteshift Radio, as well!

Favorite song of 2020: AJ Tracey – Dinner Guest ft. MoStack (Original Mix)
