Akriza – Midas Touch (Original Mix)

On July 7, 2022 by ocedm

I first started listening to Portland native Akriza earlier this year due to his mesmerizing bass tune called “Bloom“. Up next for the Nevada City based DJ and producer is a deep bass tune titled “Midas Touch”. The track features soaring vocals and Turkish ney, a type of flute made from a hollowed out reed.

“Midas Touch is referring to a myth where everything King Midas touched turned to gold,” says Zachary Neumann. “In the myth this actually turns out to be a curse. The saying is a double entendre. Most people say that if someone has the midas touch that they are good at everything they do, but also the midas touch can be a curse. Think Icarus or Hamilton, never satisfied, always desiring more. This is the same fate that befalls some who are recognized by their talents but can’t ever be satisfied. I resonate with King Midas and Hamilton in the sense that I am never satisfied. This song then is my reminder to be grateful for what I have already accomplished so that I can remember to celebrate rather than always be searching for more.”

Next week, Akriza will be performing at Northern Nights Music Festival at Cook’s Valley Campground near the Humboldt and Mendocino county line, alongside the likes of Claude VonStroke, TroyBoi, CloZee, Elderbrook, SNBRN, J. Worra, Qrion, and more.
