Wolfgang Gartner – Level Up ft. Scrufizzer (Original Mix)
Los Angeles based DJ and producer Wolfgang Gartner has linked up with British artist Scrufizzer on a BLANK tune called “Level Up”. Funky beats and gritty basslines are combined with Scrufizzer’s energetic rap vocals in their first collaboration together. The song marks the debut for both artists on Steve Aoki’s record label Dim Mak, which he started in Los Angeles in 1996.
Steve Aoki recently played the tune on his radio show Aoki’s House 539 and 540.
“‘Level Up’ started out as a stripped groove; bass and drums, and plenty of space for a lead vocal,” explains Wolfgang Garnter. “Immediately Scruffizer came to mind for the feature, as I’d been a long-time fan. What he sent back gave the project a distinct theme: a metaphorical play on the hook. i took that opportunity to go all-in on his “level up” vocal, adding sonic nods to classic video games and what resulted turned that stripped groove into a *song.* Dual entendres, clever wordplay, and a mix of nostalgic and futuristic sound design drove it home. It’s the type of track that results from a rare symbiotic reaction; always the goal but rarely the outcome, and can’t be willed into existence, but when it happens, it’s magic.”
