Cosmic Gate x Maxim Lany – The Drums (Rework)
The year is 1999: The Discovery was the first shuttle mission to dock with the International Space Station, Napster was launched, and the USA won the 1999 FIFA Women’s World Cup at the Rose Bowl. Oh, and German duo Cosmic Gate released their first original called “The Drums”!
Twenty five years later, Belgian artist Maxim Lany has put his 2024 refresh on the song, as he “pares back its harder, angular edges, recoding them as leaner, sleeker, more progressive sonics.” The tune was released through Cosmic Gate’s Wake Your Mind Records, which they started in 2013.

Both Cosmic Gate and Maxim Lany debuted the version during their respective sets at Tomorrowland in July. Cosmic Gate also played the tune during Armin van Buuren’s A State Of Trance 1195 ADE Special, their set at Amsterdam Dance Event, and on their radio show Wake Your Mind Radio 552, 553, and 554.
The list of supporters includes DJs like Armin van Buuren, AVIRA, Aly & Fila, Paul van Dyk, Markus Schulz, Bobina, JES, Korolova, and Tritonal.
Krefeld natives Claus Terhoeven (Nic Chagall) and Stefan Bossems (Bossi) were nominated for a Grammy Award For Best Remixed Recording in 2018 for their remix of “Only Road” by Gabriel & Dresden featuring Sub Teal.
Ghent based Maxim Lany has previously released on labels like Anjunadeep, Zerothree, and REALM.
