Above & Beyond and Zoë Johnston – Quicksand (Don’t Go) (Original Mix)

The iconic trio of Above & Beyond have announced their fifth album titled “Bigger Than All Of Us” set to be released on Friday July 18 along with a worldwide tour. In addition to the message, the guys released the lead single called “Quicksand (Don’t Go)” with the vocals of longtime collaborator Zoë Johnston. The entrancing and heartfelt tune was put out on their record label Anjunabeats, which was started in 2000 in London.

The guys share that “It’s classic Zoë Johnston. We’ve been working with her for 22 years, so she’s a part of the band. By that token, a song with her vocals is a very reassuring thing for our audience. It says: Above & Beyond are back, in a very recognizable form.”

Zoë Johnston explains that “I think most of us can relate to that feeling of desperation and dread when it comes to losing someone we love so deeply. The despair can be massive when you’re watching the grief rattle down the track toward you for quite some time before the moment of impact actually happens. Disappearing into quicksand. It’s scary, it hurts, and it’s lonely. Hopefully, a song like this will make anyone going through the pain of a seismic loss feel a little bit less alone.”

Above & Beyond premiered the track during their set at Group Therapy 600 at Hipódromo de las Américas in Mexico City, and also played it at Dreamstate Southern California 2024 at the Queen Mary Waterfront in Long Beach and on Group Therapy 620.

Regarding the album, Above & Beyond say “This album is us appreciating how amazing this thing we have is. The realization of how lucky we are that we get to be part of something like this for 25 years, and to have built a community that cares for each other in the way it does. It’s not about any of us individually. When we all work together to make something happen, something bigger happens.”

Above & Beyond will be playing at Coachella 2025, which takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio on two consecutive weekends: Friday April 11, Saturday April 12, and Sunday April 13; followed by Friday April 18, Saturday April 19, and Sunday April 20.

The English trio of Jono Grant, Tony McGuinness, and Paavo Siljamäki and Nottinghamshire native Zoë Johnston were nominated for a Grammy in 2016 with their collaboration “We’re All We Need”.
