Exstra & Frýnn – Round & Round (Original Mix) + Interview
We’re almost halfway through the year and Exstra has just released his first song of 2025, but it’s been well worth the wait. “Round & Round” is his melodic house and techno collaboration with Frýnn, also known as noted Dutch singer and songwriter Fridolijn van Poll. The ethereal tune from New York based Steven Landis was put out by Enormous Chills, which was launched by Chris Reece (aka Christian Hirt) in 2015 as a sublabel to Enormous Tunes in Switzerland.
Read on for an interview with Exstra as he talks about connecting with Enormous Chills, working with Frýnn, his favorite song of 2025, and more!
Hey Exstra, appreciate your time today! How has the first part of the year been for you?
It’s been a great first half of the year so far! My little man turned one last month and I couldn’t be happier to have “Round & Round” out. This one was a labor of love and the first ideas for the instrumental were formed more than 2 years ago!
Your new song called “Round & Round” with Frýnn was recently released on Enormous Chills, a familiar label to you over the past four years. How did you initially connect with the record label?
I first connected with the label head Christian Hirt ~5 years ago when I was looking to have my first demo mastered. He ended up signing that demo on Enormous Chills and it’s blossomed into an awesome friendship and partnership since then!
How did you get in touch with Frýnn and work on the vocals for the track?
I contacted Frýnn shortly after she released an awesome record with Julya Karma, an NYC artist I connected with during a remote mentorship program in 2021. Shortly thereafter, Frýnn went on to release some massive records with the likes of CamelPhat and Mathame!
Last year, you played at We Belong Here NYC at Wollman Rink in Central Park. What was that experience like?
Playing at Wollman Rink in Central Park was an absolutely surreal experience. It felt like a full-circle moment for me having been born at Lenox Hill Hospital just a few blocks away. It was also crazy for my wife who had grown up going to Central Park her entire childhood! I loved connecting with fans in the crowd that made it out early for my set and I’ve even stayed in touch with many of them to this day!
What does the rest of the year have in store for you?
Planning on a lot of studio time through the end of the year, hoping to line up some strong releases towards the end of 2025 and the beginning of 2026! Actively working on landing some bookings as well if you know anyone looking 🙂
