Fatboy Slim vs. The Rolling Stones – Satisfaction Skank (Extended Mix)
For over 25 years, Fatboy Slim has been playing his mashup of his own 1998 track “The Rockafeller Skank” with The Rolling Stones’ 1965 song “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction“. Guitarist Keith Richards originally wrote the iconic riff in the middle of the night on a home tape recorder while The Rolling Stones were on tour in Clearwater, Florida. Thirty four years later, Fatboy Slim fused his song with that of the English band’s at a performance at at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.
The Rolling Stones management has been known for not clearing samples, but that didn’t stop Fatboy Slim from asking a few times in the early years. He said that it “must be one of my greatest mashups, the one that could never be released”. The time has now been deemed right decades later, with the original stems being delivered to Fatboy Slim (in an armored car, no less!) so he could fully recreate and record the track. The tune was released on Southern Fried Records, which was started in 1994 by Fatboy Slim, and ABKCO Records, the New York based label that administers the rights to The Rolling Stones catalog.
Brighton based Norman Cook shares that “Over countless years I have always dreamed of an official release for this mash up. It has been a favourite in my DJ sets for over a quarter of a century, I can confirm it is thoroughly road tested and fit for purpose….”.
Over his 40 year career, Fatboy Slim has been behind classic tracks such as “Praise You“, “Right Here, Right Now“, “Weapon of Choice” featuring Bootsy Collins, and “Ya Mama (Push The Tempo)“. He’s in the middle of his sold out Acid Ballroom Tour, with February dates in the cities of Birmingham, Manchester, London, and Glasgow.
The Rolling Stones, which at the time consisted of Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Brian Jones, Bill Wyman, and Charlie Watts, are known for hits like “Paint It Black“, “Sympathy For The Devil“, “Honky Tonk Women“, “Beast of Burden“, and “Start Me Up“.
