Josh Wink – Futurama (Original Mix)
In the 14 years and change since I started this website, this is somehow the first time I’ve had a Josh Wink track on it (step to the side before the lightning bolt strikes!). The Philadelphia native is without a doubt a legend in the scene and returns with a hypnotic and rolling single titled “Futurama”. The song with sizzling acid lines was released through Ovum Recordings, the imprint he founded with King Britt in 1994.
DJs such as Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox, Sven Väth, Laurent Garnier, Maceo Plex, Charlotte de Witte, and John Digweed have been early supporters of the tune.
“The track began when I rediscovered a recording of my first-ever Los Angeles DJ set, played at a rave called Futurama in 1994,” shares Josh Winkelman. “Hearing it again more than 30 years later brought back the raw energy, tension and spirit of that time and sent me straight back into the studio. The result connects those early influences with where I am today—a modern acid techno track rooted in the past but made for now.”
Josh Wink joined DJ Mag in their The Making Of Dance Classics series where he talked about the background and influences of his iconic track “Higher State Of Consciousness” last September, which was released in 1995 on Strictly Rhythm.
