Flux Pavilion – Freeway EP

Is there ever too much bass in your face? Flux Pavilion would beg to differ, and goes on to show us this in his new “Freeway EP” out today. The 5 track EP consists of “Steve French” ft. Steve Aoki, “Gold Love” ft. Rosie Oddie, “I’m The One” with Dillon Francis, “Freeway”, and “Mountains and Molehills” ft. Turin Brakes. His own label Circus Records released the EP, in association with Big Beat and Atlantic Records, two record labels who represent some of the biggest names in the music industry today.

“Steve French” gives off a little acid/dubstep vibe in what I thought was a interesting collaboration overall, though I didn’t sense much of Flux in it. “Gold Love” is more like his classic dubstep style that you just know is his song with the signature melodic bass lines we’ve all become familiar with. You can hear Dillon Francis’ involvement in “I’m The One” with that moombahton sound that he has become the master of. The title track “Freeway” is a slow and down tempo track to listen to when you just want to do nothing and chill out. “Mountains and Molehills” is another tune that goes back to the “old” days of Flux Pavilion style that has won over millions of fans.

Joshua Steele does vary a bit from his traditional sound, but still shows his control and ability to span out across different styles, from dubstep to electro house to moombahton. After the success of his last EP “Blow The Roof“, the guy still manages to keep an even head and turn out tunes that still blow my mind. Not one to settle for the “current sound”, Flux Pavilion shows us why he is considered one of the leaders in expanding dubstep into a variety of genres and still make a killer track.
